"An unforgettable time"
I was very lucky to go on an exchange to Canada this year. I went to the Lakefield College school in Lakefield right next to Peterborough which is two hours away from Toronto. When I left Germany to go to Canada I was a bit scared but mostly excited. I was very nervous the whole flight and even when I tried to sleep I couldn't. I arrived at the airport in Toronto at 9pm and got picked up from Shane the school driver. We had to drive 2 or 3 hours back to Lakefield (Lcs). When we arrived at the campus and he brought me to my house everyone that lived in my house was staring at me and it was actually a bit scary.
I lived in the house named "Moodie" and it was a very nice and chilled house. The people in there were very welcoming and sweet. Also my head of house (Mrs. Hannsler) and all the ones we had on Duty while I was there were super nice and warm hearted. When I had any questions or problems I was able just to text, call or talk to them and they did whatever they could to make me feel comfortable. My roommate (Tori) was also very welcoming and helped me whenever I needed help or was confused. On my first day of school I wasn't able to go to the school store and get the school uniform so my roommate lent me some of hers. We had to wear a polo-shirt from the school, depending on the temperature, but a sweater from the school on top of the polo-shirt, the formal skirt, a black skirt or black pants. Except on Monday. On Monday we had to wear formal dress what was a white shirt, the formal skirt or the formal pants, blazer, navy-blue knee socks, fully black shoes and a tie. Everything had to be from the school store and we were not allowed to wear something with a hood to class.
In school we worked with Edsby which is really similar to Moodle. The campus also looks a bit like Louisenlund. In the first block of classes (they have four, but I was there at the end of the third and the fourth) and I had Math, History, English and horse back riding. In the second block of classes (the fourth) I had Science, Art, Drama and Dance. Every subject was fun and it was a chance for me to meet new and different people because they also have courses so you are with different people in each subject. They also have a little Farm nearby where the students go once a month to help. I met a lot of great people while I was there and I made a few really close friends. I was in grade 10 while I was there and I didn't have to take any tests or exams. My friends hated me for that because I had a sleep in everyday and pretty much free time, while they had to get up very early and were always stressed.
We had a long weekend when we were able to do different "activities". For example, could we go to Florida and visit Disneyland, we also could just stay at home if we wanted to or we could go to a staycation trip which is just a trip somewhere in Canada. I went on the staycation trip and it was so much fun. The plan was to go to Toronto and do some fun activities but make a stop in Peterborough and stay there for one night. On that night we went axe throwing and it was so much fun. We stayed one night in a hotel and then we went to Toronto. We also stayed at a hotel and had some activities to do. We went to a baseball game, for example, or went to wonderwold what is kind of the same as the Hansapark in Germany. We also had a lot of time for shopping and I eventually got lost a few times so my friends always had to have an eye on me! We had a lot of fun on this trip.
Back in school I made really close friend and I still have contact with them and we text everyday and almost call everyday! After class we all met up and went for a walk over the campus, played in the gym or just played around on the soccer fields. One night we went to town to watch a movie with their whole friend group. After the movie we just walked around a bit. In the last few days I went out for dinner with my other friends. Saying goodbye was the worst and hardest part about the exchange and we all cried a lot. I'm glad that I was able to do this exchange and that I was able to meet those people. I really hope that I'll see them again one day and that we'll stay in contact.
